Flagyl is a prescription medication that is used to treat bacterial infections in the body. It belongs to a group of medications called metronidazole. This medication works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the body, which helps the body fight off infection.
Flagyl works by inhibiting the production of bacterial proteins, called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential for the survival of bacteria. Flagyl stops bacteria from producing these essential proteins, thus preventing their replication and causing the infection.
